One project we are developing is augmented reality medical devices to provide a modular design system to assist with education, training and performance assessment of the use of medical exam devices. The devices and system work with manikins or standardized patients to test medical students on their ability to gather information from patients, perform physical examinations and communicate their findings to the patients and colleagues. In order to gather the information necessary to establish a diagnosis, students use standard medical devices such as ophthalmoscopes, otoscopes, stethoscopes, among others.
Metrics via smart devices will provide added exam features and assessment capabilities. Additional features include the ability to simulate augmented scenarios. This device functions as a standard medical device and, in addition, has components that allow augmented readings to be controlled and displayed to simulate patient cases.
